About South Padre Island
South Padre Island is off the south eastern coast of Texas. Some of you may have heard of it as a “spring breaker” spot or a nicer, “beachy” place in Texas. It has some of the best waters in Texas, as they are located in the Gulf of Mexico and waters up north are much more of a brownish color. It’s considered a “getaway” and with some of the resorts, you might feel as close to Florida!
How Do I Get There?
The most straight-forward way to arrive at South Padre Island, is to fly into the Brownsville Airport. Then taxi or drive across the waters from Port Isabel. The drive is about 30- 40 minutes.
What Is There to Do?
South Padre Island is one of the most southern destinations in Texas, it is summer there almost year-round. There’s beaches, waterfront resorts, and water activities to enjoy that are more fun than in the murkier waters up north.
There are several festivals that take place: Midwest Electronic Musical Festival, Annual Kite Festival, and Flying fun Fiesta.
There’s a lot of eco-tourism – dolphin docks, sealife reserve, safari, nature trails, zoo, horse back riding, birding and nature centers.
Fishing is very popular.
Climate and When to Come Visit
The summer months – June to September – are hottest with 90’s averaging or up to the 100’s!
Winter months can drop to the low 50’s and reach into the high 60’s/low 70’s. It seems a bit chillier but still great temperatures!
