Summer is almost here as is beach weather, warm nights, and even longer days! Some beach communities begin to thrive when Memorial Day weekend arrives, as does Newport in Rhode Island.
I visited in August, when the nights stayed in the 80’s, people were out in the harbor all day, and being outside was so ever pleasant. Many famous families used to come for vacationing – such as the Kennedy’s, the Eisenhowers, and the Vanderbilts.
Their mansions stay open on the grounds to the public for touring!
You can see up to 5 mansions at one time and there are 10 total.
Some mansions you need to go with a tour guide and others you can view on your own with a headset to give you background and history.
Tickets are at $31.50 now for 5 mansions, most are open daily but check the calendars as they are rented out for events.
I chose to do the latter and took myself around these mansions:
A Private Members’ Club too!
I recommend the tour especially when you can do it at your own pace. The mansions are open from 9am /10am until 5pm / 6pm. Be sure to check their schedules and experience these rich houses!
