About Rabbit Island

rabbit island

Rabbit Island is actually the name of several islands in New Zealand.  They’re in the Tasman Bay and open to the public as a recreationa reserve.

How Do I Get There?

Rabbit Island is 20 kilometers east of Nelson. You can drive from Richmond and arrive in 15 minutes if you are local.

Air New Zealand flies into Nelson, New Zealand if coming internationally.

What is There to Do?

It’s a year-round retreat for the beach and picnics. There are BBQ’s available to the public and the roads are open for running and biking. There’s a good surf going on as well commonly, check the surf reports for hitting the waves.

For the adventurous runners – The Tasman’s Great Taste Trail, a cycleway running from Richmond to Motueka and it goes through Rabbit Island.
