Do you ever stumble upon certain places that make you feel as if you’re somewhere else? Either a forest, old times, or for me – an island.
That’s what occurred to me earlier this week. I flew into Raleigh, North Carolina, and spent the night there. I stayed at the Hilton North Raleigh Hotel on Wake Forest Road. Right next door, about a 2-3 minute walk, you enter the grounds of Bahama Breeze.
Bahama Breeze is a tropical, Caribbean based restaurant ready for you to enter and feel like you’re away in a paradise. Nothing against the beauty of North Carolina – I went for a great run in the woodsy neighborhood after my meal, but this spot takes you away and feels like true Bahamas!
The grounds are huge so wherever you sit – indoors or outdoors, you have a view of tropical gardens, a huge fireplace and trees. You can hardly see any street or cars. If you do, you might think it’s the beginning of a golf resort.
Food-wise – they have all Caribbean on the menu! Conch, jerk, seafood, sauces galore, everything. I had the shrimp and lobster quesadilla which came with home made salsa, as well as the Jerk chicken wings and fish tacos. Everything was so fresh, grilled to perfection, and topped with delicate sauces. There were maybe 40 things on the menu and it was hard to choose between them all.
The feel of the Bahamas stuck with me the entire time I was there. Caribbean music played, fresh food was served all around and sitting outdoors hit the spot for me. Everyone was jolly and in a good mood. All that was missing was sand, which hey, maybe they will add in the future?
Will I go back? Definitely! I found out that Bahama Breeze is a chain and exists in other US states, but this location already stole my heart. Next up will be the locations in New Jersey which are closest to my home in Brooklyn.
Tip – Monday through Friday almost all of the appetizers are on the Happy Hour menu for 1/2 off! That dwindles down prices to $4-7 bucks for great sized servings. I completely ate too much but was happy doing so.
Late Night Special – The Happy Hour menu returns Sunday through Thursday from 9pm to close!
