Do you love sea turtles? I certainly do. Writing this, I contemplated whether I should keep this “secret” yet not so secret spot to myself. It was a selfish thought, but I do want to share with you all a great spot to see and swim with sea turtles!
Head to St. Thomas – one of the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.
You may have read my adventure over at the Lindbergh Bay beach, which is located on the east side of the airport. Well, the treasure I’m talking about is right on the other side of the airport (west) – Brewer’s Bay.
Not many travelers or tourists go there at all, which surprised me at first. But then it made sense, many tourists stay at the resorts which are all a bit further from the airport. When I traveled, I stayed right in downtown Charlotte Amalie, so the beaches by the airport were in perfect distance for me to travel to.
Brewer’s Bay is a local spot, and you might have the beach to yourself completely. If anyone else does come, there will be many 10 people tops. The beach is long and sandy. It is very clean as the only businesses nearby are a few local food trucks and the University.
The best part – There are sea turtles in the water not even 100 yards out! They love to swim close to shore and feed on the seagrass. They are not shy and will let you watch them. Grab a snorkel and hang out with them! They are, as the Animal Planet would say, TOO CUTE!
