Going island hopping in Mexico is one of the best things to do off land. There are many islands, off the East and West Coast of the country.

If you are traveling to Cancun, add Isla Mujeres to your itinerary. This island is a quick escape from the Hotel Strip. Less than 15 minutes by ferry, you will enter another slice of paradise.

Head to the northern end of the strip and catch the Ferry from Puerto Juarez. This is the easiest port for those of you staying on the strip. Two other locations to catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres include Embarcardero Pier and Playa Tortuga Pier. Check out the schedules and fares here.

The top things to do on Isla Mujeres include booking a beachfront hotel to make it a staycation, scuba diving, snorkeling, and touring around the island on two wheels. Renting a golf cart or bicycle is common on getting around and enjoying the sites.

Isla Contoy is a natural wildlife preserve and is also a sanctuary for birds. Head there to see whales, sharks, and dolphins. If you love turtles, visit the Tortugranja, which is a turtle farm.

Depending on the weather, kite and windsurfing are a great sport to try. If you prefer to be underwater, go for a dive of the underwater museum in the waters – MUSA.

Isla Mujeres is a lot more laid back than Cancun, therefore beach lovers will enjoy the peace here more than raving beach bars on the mainland.
