One of the most important factors of our travels is trip insurance. Many of us continue to forget it trip after trip. I have been there myself, when I forgot to purchase trip insurance for a journey half way across the world. Another time I saw the Add-On option at the end of my rental car confirmation and somehow looked past it. There was a beach vacation I had planned but then weather cancelled it on me.
Trip insurance is very important and it comes in handy when you least expect it.
How many times have you had to alter or cancel a trip? Whether it was a hotel, a car rental, or the entire package? How about having to purchase insurance at check-in and see that the rate is higher than it was online?
This has happened to me more times than zero and I have kicked myself in the butt afterwards for losing money.
When I book my travels, I choose Allianz Travel Insurance as my provider. They have an established reputation for their services and are under the Allianz umbrella, which is one of the world’s largest financial companies. They insure over 21 million individuals every year.
Common things I hear include – “Do I really need it?” or “It’s a cheap trip, I don’t think I really need to add on insurance”, or “Nothing will happen, my trip is set 100%.”
Last month, I booked and canceled a hotel in Vegas losing $52. My husband once booked a hotel whose cancellation policy had an atrocious fee if it was within 7 days of arrival. Last year, a friend had to cancel a week long trip in Jamaica due breaking her foot. Things happen in life.
The great thing about travel insurance from Allianz Global Assistance is that it will reimburse prepaid deposits and expenses if you have to cancel your trip. This includes for reasons which illness, injury, or unexpected situation covered by the policy. If you have a medical emergency that is covered by the policy, Allianz will cover your transportation to the nearest medical facility. How much peace of mind this provides is incredible these situations can happen to anyone at any time.
As traveling has become more popular in our society the past few years, studies have been conducted and reports have been written on how we travel and how much we spend. Allianz Global Assistance produced the Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index which shows interesting data that I did not know until I read it.
The recent survey in June 2016 showed that fewer Americans will take a summer vacation this year, but those who do will spend 11% more than they did in 2015. The amount of individuals who know believe that taking a vacation is important to them has risen to 65% as opposed to 35% in 2010. With discussion of how many people believe they feel confident they will take a vacation this year, 43% feel that way this year. Using hybrid services, such as Airbnb and Uber has risen to 36%.
All this data and more is conducive to how we, as individuals, are approached about traveling. As new services appear, we choose how we like to travel in the future and our choices are expanded.
