With summer gone and cooler days, autumn is one of the best times for a getaway. Less crowds in autumn come with off-season prices and a chance to tour destinations in a more inexpensive way. Here are the top five vacations for an autumn getaway that you should start looking into now.

Outdoor Adventures in the West Coast

Autumn gets a quick jumpstart on the West Coast of the United States after September ends. Outdoor activities are many to choose from while hotel prices are cut in half. View the foliage and wildlife in the many National Parks before hibernation begins. Take a hike through Teton National Park in Wyoming and make a stopover at the National Elk Refuge. Rent a car and choose your camping site from desert spots such as Mojave Desert. Bike the friendly trails of Denver, Colorado, or opt for whiskey distillery tastings in Montana. It’s time to explore all before the blizzards begin to come.

Festivals in Hawaii

There is never a bad time to visit Hawaii, but there certainly is a less expensive time to take a trip. The autumn months of Hawaii come with emptier beaches in the day for relaxation and romance. Watch the local surfers while choosing your favorite shaved ice. Have a swim at Wailua Falls all to yourself. Go food tasting at the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival and celebrate with the community at the Waikiki Holiday Parade. For more seclusion, head to Molokai and book a tour with a local for viewing secret sites unknown to the public.

Get Creative in Canada

Road trips are fun but everyone knows that a flight to Canada is much quicker. Before it gets too cold for comfort, explore the many Canadian cities, National Parks, and mountains. Snag deals on hotels ranging from rustic, western rooms to five-star, luxurious suites. Walk the cobblestone streets of Quebec City and visit the famous Chateau Frontenac. Explore Montreal for its gothic cathedrals and European-inspired culture. Go whale watching off the islands of Vancouver. Take a refreshing swim at the hot springs in Banff and hike before the snow comes.

Fall in Love with London

If you have not yet visited London, or want to revisit, autumn is best for really getting to know London. Take the non-crowded Tube as a local and ride through the many charming neighborhoods as you choose your stop. Head to Buckingham Palace with rare short waiting lines. Enjoy a picnic in Hyde Park and get social at Bonfire Night. Taste the seasonal mulled wine and cider. Dance the night away at the London Jazz Festival. Shopping for trench coats and trendy boots starts here.

Catch Night and Day in Iceland

Visiting Iceland in autumn provides a balanced split between night and day which means more sightseeing all around. Head to the Blue Lagoon before dinner for epic sunsets. Visit the many free attractions along the Golden Circle which include Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall. Taste Icelandic food in downtown Reykjavik such as the local plokkfiskur stew. Take recommendations from the locals for a night drive and be on the lookout for the Northern Lights which begin to reappear.

When you visit these destinations in autumn, you will get a unique experience along with a smaller price tag to get to these areas.
